Indelta båtsmän, horsemen and soldiers 1680–1901

From the 1680s up to and including 1901, the Swedish armed forces consisted partly of indelta men and partly of conscripts. The indelta crew made up the majority and formed the core of the army's regional regiments and the navy's boatswain companies. When the Allotment System (Indelningsverket) was created, one or more farms were given the task of forming a rote and a rusthåll to recruit a boatman, horseman or soldier, pay him a salary and give him a croft with land to farm.

The Allotment System was different in different parts of the country. It also changed over time. In some provinces or regiments, for example, there were no crofts.

Our digitized archives mainly concern the time during the allotment system.

In the database Indelningsverket (Grill) you can see which companies, regiments, rotar and rusthåll the parishes belonged to.
