Contents Rutgers has arrived at Copenhagen much too late to be able to participate in the Segeberg conference, which had met from 1st to 7th March. The participants, the Dukes of Brunswick and Lüneburg, discussed with their host, Christian IV, the agenda of the next meeting of the Lower Saxon Circle. The Duke-Archbishop of Bremen and the Dukes of Holstein-Gottorp and Mecklenburg sent excuses. King Frederick of Bohemia was present, too. - Christian IV is recruiting soldiers and may become head of the Evangelical Union. He has sent ambassadors to Emperor Ferdinand and John George of Saxony to sue for peace. If they reject the peace terms, Christian may take the field with 20,000 troops. Chancellor Ulfeldt has been sent to Holland, and Rutgers fears a closer alliance between the Danish and the States General.
