Contents
Contents Rutgers has acted in Wewitzer's case before the States General. - He has been called on by Nicolaus Gillison who had been entrusted by Gustav II Adolf to recruit sailors in the Dutch Republic. Nicolaus asked him to pay for the recruitment and to either buy a warship for the transport of the sailors or give guarantees for a merchant ship. Shipowners refuse to transport sailors for fear that they may hijack the ship and join the pirates. Not having the financial resourses required and considering the fact that Nicolaus is not a trustworthy person, Rutgers asks for instructions. - Rutgers has been contacted by Isaac Massa, who has got a letter of recommendation from Gustav II Adolf, and promises to help him. He calls attention again to Treslong's case (see Rutgers' letter of 1624-10-22, 2200). Schulman will give a report about events in the Dutch Republic.
